Convincing performance by Louna at the Swiss national championships this past weekend (June 6 and 7) in Zug. Competing at the elite level, she secured a silver medal in both the team and individual competitions.
In the team event, Louna and her teammates from the Bern Fencing Club (Isabelle Burkhard, Sumaiia Iandieva, and Daniela Süto) started the weekend on a bad note, falling to SECH La-Chaux-de-Fonds by a score of 36-45. The quartet bounced back in style, however, qualifying for the final with three consecutive victories (vs. FG Luzern in the preliminary round, vs. ZFC Zurich in the quarterfinals, and vs. SEB Basel in the semifinals). In the gold medal match, the FCB ladies ultimately fell to CES Sierre by a score of 40-45.
In Sunday's individual competition, Louna qualified for the knockout stage as the No. 5 seed, following a strong preliminary round record of five wins and one defeat. In the direct elimination rounds, she went on to defeat Swiss No. 1 and 2024 Olympian Pauline Brunner (15-12) among others, before ultimately coming up short against veteran Angela Krieger (FG Luzern) in the final.
Louna on her performance in Zug
"Overall, I am happy with the way I competed, in particular during the knockout stage of the individual competition. Unfortunately, I lacked a bit of patience in the final, but my hat’s off to Angela – she deserved the win."
